TEND

A sanctuary for slowing down together.

a gentle membership including seasonal yin, restorative and somatic yoga, meditation, and rest in community

Welcome

TEND is a seasonal live, online sanctuary for people who want to slow down and practice embodiment and self-care in community.

It is a space to practice yin, restorative, mindful and somatic yoga alongside nidra and meditation, guided by the rhythms of the Taoist Five Elements and the unfolding seasons of the year. We move gently, return often, and allow practice to meet us where we actually are.

TEND is not about self improvement, optimisation, or keeping up. It is about tending ourselves and one another with care, over time, throughout the year.

What is TEND?

TEND is an ongoing gentle membership for people who are longing for depth, embodiment, and connection without pressure or performance. It offers a steady weekly rhythm and a shared container, so practice does not have to be carried alone.

Each week we gather live for a 90 minute practice that weaves together yin yoga, restorative and nourishing shapes, somatic awareness and embodied listening, meditation and contemplative inquiry. There is also a monthly yoga nidra rest practice recording.

The emphasis is not on doing more, but on listening more closely. You are invited to arrive as you are, practice at your own pace, and stay in relationship with yourself and the group across the year.

All live sessions are recorded and members have the full archive of practices available to revisit.

The Shape of the Year

TEND follows the Taoist Five Elements of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water as a way of listening to the natural rhythms of growth, fullness, integration, release, rest, and renewal. These five elements map on to specific pairings of energy meridians in the body, according to Chinese Medicine, which will inform our practice.

Rather than rigid dates or sharp transitions, we move seasonally, allowing spaciousness, exploration and time for integration. Each element forms a chapter of the year, shaping the tone of practice, reflection, and inquiry.

🪵In Spring, Wood invites beginnings, growth, structure and meeting anger and self-criticism with care.

🔥In Summer, Fire explores warmth, connection, joy, and expression.

🌱In late Summer, Earth centres nourishment, steadiness, digestion, and belonging.

⚙️In Autumn, Metal turns towards letting go, grief, breath, clarity, and boundaries.

🌊In Winter, Water offers rest, depth, exploring fear, wisdom, and renewal.

You do not need any prior knowledge of the Taoist Five Elements to take part. The teachings are offered as companions, guides and invitations to accompany our practice.

Weekly Live Practice

Live classes take place on Tuesdays 7pm - 8.30pm UK and last for 90 minutes. Sessions are held on Zoom and include time to explore, pause, enquire and just be.

This is slow practice with space for possibilities, choice, and adaptation. You are always welcome to modify, lie down, turn your camera off, or simply listen. If you cannot attend live, recordings are available so you can stay connected in your own time, or explore the growing library.

The 90 minute class will have roughly this structure:

  • 3~5 minutes of centring/arriving at the start

  • 55 minutes of yin / restorative / somatic + mindful yoga

  • 8~10 minutes of Shavasana (relaxation)

  • 20 minutes of guided mindfulness meditation

Practicing Together

Community is at the heart of TEND. Alongside the weekly classes, members are invited into a quiet, intentional online space where we can share and be witnessed.

This is not a fast moving social feed. It is a place to reflect, ask questions, respond to seasonal themes, and feel held in the knowledge that others are moving through similar cycles of effort, rest, change, and uncertainty.

Participation is always optional. You are welcome to share often, occasionally, or not at all.

Our community space is held on the Circle platform / app, away from the noise of social media. I will offer gentle seasonal prompts for reflection and sharing, and there will be space for checking in and giving voice to whatever’s come up for you in your practice. Class videos are shared here, as well as the monthly nidra audio recordings. Live sessions take place on Zoom.

Who is TEND for?

TEND may be a good fit if you are craving a slower and more sustainable way to practice, if you are drawn to yin yoga, meditation, and contemplative work, or if your body and life are changing and you want practice to meet that honestly.

It suits those who are tired of self improvement culture and who value depth, continuity, and gentle accountability through shared rhythm rather than pressure.

You do not need to be flexible, calm, spiritual, or consistent. You only need a willingness to arrive as you are.

General Group Culture

This group actively welcomes members with different spiritual / religious backgrounds (and none), sexualities, gender identities, races/ethnicities, and socioeconomic realities. The expectation is that we come together to share our experiences in a supportive container, respecting and holding each other’s diverse experiences and opinions with mutual respect and kindness.

Who it may not suit

TEND is likely not a good fit if you are looking for fast results, fitness goals, or high energy vinyasa style classes. It may also not suit those who want a tightly structured curriculum, attendance requirements, or constant stimulation.

This is an invitation into something quieter, slower, and more relational.

About the Facilitator

TEND is guided by Michelle, a yoga teacher, lay-ordained Buddhist, and writer with over 30 years of lived

relationship to practice.

Her work is shaped by yin, somatic and restorative yoga, Buddhist and Taoist teachings, seasonal and

elemental wisdom, and a deep respect for all bodies as they actually are across ageing, change, loss, and

renewal. Teaching is offered from within practice rather than from above it, with an emphasis on honesty,

care, and shared inquiry. Find out more about Michelle here.

Try it First

Interested in trying a class or two before you commit? There is a library of yin and restorative yoga classes plus many yoga nidras on Opting Out, and on Insight Timer.
